If you’ve been following along for a while, you know that my art business is more than just painting murals. I wrote a blog post recently going over all of the different income streams in my business, and why I think it’s important to have various sources of income to keep your business healthy. One of those income streams for me is through dropshipping products.
I’ve been able to utilize dropshipping to grow the shop side of my business for several years, so I thought I would share everything I’ve learned! I think you’ll find this post really helpful if you’re considering adding dropshipping as an income stream in your art business.
Please note that this post contains an affiliate link, meaning I may earn a small commission should you make a purchase using the link in this post. I only recommend products that I truly love and use in my business!
If I get something in my head, it’s pretty much a done deal. I’ll do anything I can to work towards making it happen. And that’s how my shop came to be!
Most of the products you see me sell all started because I couldn’t find something that I liked, so I made it.
But making a product can take time, and more importantly, money. You have to source materials, invest in production and inventory, and manage shipping and delivery. It can definitely be a lot!
When I discovered dropshipping, I knew it would be a great option for what I was hoping to do.
Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where an online store sells products without keeping them in stock.
So with dropshipping, you’re able to easily make products with your designs without the overhead.
To help you decide if dropshipping is right for you, here are some of the pros and cons that I’ve come across.
Dropshipping methods are easy to use and easy to integrate into your Shopify website. It really is a pretty passive income stream.
Once you upload a product to your website, your dropship supplier handles the printing and shipping.
The customer experience is the same – they cannot tell that the product is dropshipped. But you are only charged when a purchase is made, so you have no upfront costs.
The profit margins on dropshipped products are slim (you’re paying for the convenience, for sure, and the ease of use that the supplier provides).
However, you do have the ability to set your prices to whatever you need to account for this!
There are a ton of websites out there to use for dropshipping products with your designs on them. I have found that one of my favorites to use is Printful. It’s easy, and they have a really wide variety to suit lots of different product needs.
You can use this link to get $5 off your first order with Printful!
Over the past ten years of Alli K Design, I’ve learned so many things along the way. Every phase and new venture has taught me something different, and I love sharing the wealth when it comes to lessons I’ve learned.
If you’re working on growing your own art business, I’d love to support you. Whether that’s talking through if dropshipping would be a good fit for your designs, or exploring another topic, I believe that we all can benefit from mentorship. I know I wouldn’t be where I am without it!
