I’m still pinching myself about this one, but so excited to share my latest Texas mural today! I was so honored to have the opportunity to paint a mural for Sprouts, and I’m in love with how this one came out.
This mural was for the newest Sprouts Farmers Market location in the DFW area. Sprouts is a grocery store chain that specializes in natural and organic foods, great fresh produce, bulk items, and natural home products like skin and body care.
So I knew right off the bat that the concept needed to be produce-forward. I LOVE the citrus design that we eventually landed on. And I especially love that Sprouts let me paint them in blue and green tones!
This mural actually has multiple parts to it. There were a few different walls, and we also painted a set of stairs to coordinate with the murals. It’s always funny to me how, when we start a project, the walls seem so much larger in person than what I imagine based on the measurements. But we tackled it! Overall it took us 86 hours to paint everything.
We also started the project in May, so we faced a few weather challenges, but in the end, everything worked out perfectly. We had some super hot days, as well as some rain that we had to work around. Because the main wall for this mural was in full sun, and it was super bright, we adjusted our routine a bit and painted the majority of it in the afternoons, once the wall was in the shade. This wound up working out really well to get it done!
We also had a weather issue come up that I’ve never seen before – after it rained, some of our paint sort of disappeared, which was crazy! We had to troubleshoot that and figure out why it happened. It was almost like when you add alcohol to watercolor paints and the alcohol soaks up the paint – like there was some sort of chemical reaction or something. But we cleaned the area, repainted, and sealed it, and it turned out perfectly.
I got this opportunity through word-of-mouth referral from the developer community. I’m really grateful for the connections and friendships I’ve made over the years, and I always tell other mural artists that maintaining great connections, especially with developers, is always beneficial. When you’re personable and easy to work with, great opportunities will come your way!
If you have a space that you’re thinking about adding a mural to and searching for an artist, I’d love to hear from you! While I’m based in Dallas, Texas, I’ll gladly travel to paint your space.
I also offer mentorship for fellow artists, so if you’d like to work together in that capacity, you can find out more information here.
