One thing that I get asked about ALL the time is what some of my favorite mural painting supplies are. I try to share as much as I can on Instagram, but I thought it would be really helpful to do a roundup post today with everything that I use on a regular basis!
As a Dallas-based mural artist, I’ve definitely tried just about everything under the sun. I’ve been painting murals professionally for over ten years now, so I’ve had plenty of opportunity for trial and error with different products that are out there. But from brushes to tape to paint, I’ve got a trusted list now!
So if you are looking for the best mural painting supplies, keep reading!

The murals that I paint tend to vary in their design, so we always keep different sizes of brushes and paint pens on hand at every job. I’ll often include more detailed line work, so we always need to have a few different brushes around! Here are my favorites:
Larger brushes: Liquitex Professional Freestyle Large Scale Brush
Palm brushes: Zibra Palm Pro (we love Zibra brushes!)
Smaller brushes: UPINS Flat Paintbrushes
Paint Pens: POSCA Paint Pen (the best all-around paint pen) and MOLOTOW (the best white paint pen).

The most important supply of all! Whenever I can, I always try to make sure we can use Chroma mural paint. Out of everything I’ve tried over the years, it’s my absolute favorite. And the paint holders that we always use are Wooster paint holders. The security strap is expandable, so it’s comfortable for both me and Landon to use.
A finished mural is only as good as the cleanup behind it, and trust me, we’ve definitely tried out every product imaginable here!
The first thing we NEVER start a mural without is baby wipes. These things are absolutely amazing at removing paint when we need it! We also always keep Gone stain remover around on every job site.
And lastly, to help us always paint crisp lines, we never paint a mural without Frogtape. It’s by far the best!

Our preferred method for transferring the design from the iPad onto the surface of the building before we start painting is to use a projector. We use the ViewSonic for really large projects, and the LG HF65LA 100” Full HD as a short-throw projector.
I’ve painted murals all over Texas and beyond, and getting everything to the job site can be tricky! Once I started using a folding wagon, though, it got a lot easier. And this clear travel bag is my favorite for toting everything around.
Depending on the size of the mural we’re painting, we often have to rent a lift of some kind, but for smaller projects or getting to the mid to lower sections of the wall, this 4-step folding ladder is our ladder of choice.
Two other tools that I haven’t mentioned yet are this travel-sized level, which comes in SO handy on nearly every project, and this tape measure.
If you know me, you know that I’m absolutely obsessed with my Bose noise-cancelling headphones. I literally wear them everywhere! Even when I’m not painting. I feel like they help calm my brain.
I also love to wear a jumpsuit on painting days (in black, of course!) because it helps me move around more easily. This Dickies jumpsuit is my fav.

And finally, for security, we always keep a time-lapse camera running on the job site, and this one is our go-to. It’s all-weather, so you don’t have to worry about rain or snow, and it has an industrial clamp so you can attach it to anything nearby.
I hope this post has been helpful!! If you are a fellow artist or muralist and looking for more tips and advice, I’m always available. I love offering mentorship to other artists and business owners, which you can learn more about here!
