Y’all, I am so excited to share this project today! This Orlando mural was my largest mural yet – it was over 12,000 square feet and took almost a year of planning! It was such a surreal moment seeing it completed. I’m so thankful to the Evermore Resort for trusting me with this project. I’m so thankful to the Evermore Resort for trusting me with this project.
So how did I pull it off?! Let’s talk all about the behind-the-scenes!
The wall for this mural was the entire side of the Hilton Conrad at the Evermore Resort. It’s the first thing people see when driving through the resort, and the client wanted to fill it with a colorful mural to make a great first impression.
The design was inspired by the local birds of the area. They can all be seen regularly around the resort. And yes – even the turkeys! The turkeys have actually been living in the area for decades, so that was one element that the client specifically requested we include. They roam the whole property and were like our mascot while we were painting!
This project was my most colorful mural yet with over 50 colors used. My personal design style definitely leans more black and white, so it was really cool being able to push myself creatively with all of the colors.
As I mentioned, this project was so large that it took almost an entire year to plan. A project like this is a really big undertaking, and definitely requires lots of logistics planning! In addition to the design work, I had to arrange for all of our travel, hire a photographer/videographer, schedule our lifts, order our paint, get all of our supplies ready, and work out the schedule with the resort. It also took lots of coordinating on-site with the resort staff each day.
I knew this mural would take a while and planned for my husband and I to be at the resort in Orlando for an entire month. Once we got started, we painted for 28 days straight! I had never painted for that long before and was worried about the physical and mental fatigue, but honestly being at the Evermore and hearing the staff cheer us on each day made me so excited to get up and paint!
My process for murals like this is to first project the design onto the wall at night while it’s dark out and sketch the design. The next morning I take a photo of the sketch and overlay my design onto it so I can see any spots that were missed. Then I re-sketch anything missing and block out the colors, and then we paint!
We started with the largest bird first – the blue heron. He took 8 whole days! From there Landon and I found our painting groove and it went pretty smoothly from that point on. My Zibra brushes were by far the MVT (most valuable tool!) of the project, I’m so glad we used them.
All in, we used 42 gallons of paint, 575 baby wipes, and 25 brushes!
I couldn’t be more proud of this Orlando mural. It was such a labor of love, and to see it finished gave me chills!
While I’m based in Dallas, I love being able to travel all over for projects. So if you’re looking for a mural artist, I’d love to hear from you! Reach out to me through my contact form, and I’ll be in touch to learn more about your vision. No wall is off-limits!!
