How I Use Sketchar and Virtual Reality as a Mural Artist
As a mural artist, I’m always looking for tools that can help me work more efficiently and create better results for my clients. I’ve started incorporating Sketchar into my process recently, which is an app that lets you project designs onto larger-scale surfaces using virtual reality, and I’m absolutely loving it!!
From Projectors to Sketchar: My Evolution as a Mural Artist
Virtual reality tools have completely changed the game for how I approach murals. For years, I relied on traditional projectors to transfer my designs onto walls. Believe it or not, on my first project, I actually used one of those old-school projectors that teachers would use in school! It was clunky, but it worked!
The main drawback to using a traditional projector however is that it has to be dark enough out for you to see the projected design and transfer it to the wall. I don’t love being up late projecting and then having to be back there early the next day to paint.
But this is where Sketchar comes in handy! Virtual reality tools like Sketchar make it so you can transfer your design to the wall during the daytime, which is so much easier.
Why I Love Sketchar
The biggest game-changer for me is the flexibility that Sketchar gives me. I absolutely love the challenge of painting large-scale murals, and this tool really helps me tackle those bigger projects.
Some of my favorite mural projects recently have been super big–like the Evermore Resort in Orlando and the Sprouts project here in the Dallas area. Large murals like these require careful planning and accurate design transfer at a big scale, and Sketchar makes that process so much smoother.
Instead of rushing to project designs in the dark, I can work during normal hours, see exactly how my design will look, and then get started painting when I’m ready. Virtual reality has made a huge difference in my process!
